The initial interest of a career Essay My initial interest of a career within Primary Education sparked whilst I was volunteering for a local football team, where I was presented with the opportunity to coach 8/9-year-old children, as part of my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. I found it particularly rewarding to see a child progress following my guidance and learning environment. From this, I have established that I enjoy the interaction with children and supporting their holistic development on their personal level, I am fascinated with how their minds develop, gaining an understanding into a child’s perceptions of the world. Primary Education has been the course I have been exclusively interested in since the start of High School, mainly due to the opportunities that have been laid ahead at South Bromsgrove. I secured a week’s placement last year, through a local Primary School. I was able to work alongside teachers and support staff in different roles across the school. This was a capturing and challenging experience. Shadowing a Primary School teacher enabled me to be involved in a range of areas such as early years, extra-curricular events and a taste of every subject at Primary level. This developed my confidence when approaching senior teachers and pupils whilst at the school. The most rewarding part was being able to help pupils within lessons with tasks, which is essential in developing the defined core of teaching. Helping a child progress motivates me and this experience reinforced my desire to teach. The concept of playing an active role in helping children develop greatly appeals to me. A key part of the course would place me in an actual schooling environment, broadening my knowledge further and giving me a first-hand impression of the role itself. I am applying to this course because I believe my personal skill set and passion are well molded to the course requirements. My communication, interpersonal skills, and patience will benefit me within this role. I also believe that becoming an excellent teacher requires a desire to assist children in the learning process and this is one quality which I feel I definitely possess and have been commented on. I also emphasize the necessity of enabling children to have fun at school and relish their Primary School days. I believe that my current philosophy is person-orientated, as I obtain good interpersonal skills, promoting positive results from individuals, rather than focusing on a larger task. Primary Education provides children with the building blocks to pursue a personal desire, in later school years and beyond school . At South Bromsgrove, I study BTEC Sport and Business Studies. A current focus in Sport is phases of learning. This particular unit has enabled me to understand the process of thinking. The Cognitive, Associative and Autonomous stages link into how a Primary pupil processes thoughts. In the future, this will provide me with an understanding of how children perceive school, which is a fundamental part of the Primary Education course. Business has enhanced my knowledge on budgeting which is a key part of the role, as each department is allocated a budget. This could benefit me in a teaching role. I also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh programme, having completed both Bronze and Silver I am working towards the Gold Award in 2018. The DofE programme has presented lots of opportunities. Volunteering in a local charity shop to learning new personal skills, such as problem solving and self-management. I have always been a sportsman which has provided me with a core set of skills. Resilience, Social Independence, and Responsibility. These skills are applicable to university and I feel due to my skill set I can work on independent tasks and would thrive in this environment. I also believe that Primary Education requires a great level of responsibility. I personally feel that this skill is above satisfactory and again, I would face no obstruction in pursuing a career in Primary Education.

Jacobs creates a sense of horror in ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ by using a variety of literary techniques. As ‘The Monkey's Paw’ was written in 1902, Jacobs makes the story scary in ways that are very different to modern horror films and books. We can tell that the story was written in the early twentieth century as it contains many details that would have been common in Victorian literature. One of the most obvious features from ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ that tells us that the story was written over a century ago, is the old-fashioned language that Jacobs uses. The language used throughout the story contains words such as ‘rubicund’ and ‘visage’, which are not words that are commonly used today. Also, the fact that  £200 was considered to be a lot of money shows that the story was from a long time ago as  £200 is not seen as a large amount of money in the modern world. Other aspects of the story also show that Ã¢â‚¬Ë œThe Monkey’s Paw’ was written in the Victorian time period - the fact that India was seen as a new, exotic and unexplored country tells us that the story must have been written in a time when transport wasn’t as easily available as it is today. In the story, when the Sergeant-Major tells the Whites about his exploration, they seem almost in awe of him as he is seen to be the bravest and most adventurous person that they have ever met because of his journey to India. The fact that Jacobs used a Sergeant-Major character is also another typical feature of Victorian literature. Finally, the household objects that the Whites use in ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ show that the story was not set in modern times. For example, the Whites use candles for light and heat their kettle on a fire as there was no electricity in Victorian times. As ‘The Monkey’s Paw... ...f seeing whether their wish has come true. I think that WW Jacobs is a very powerful and intelligent writer who has cleverly used every possible feature in the story of ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ to create a sense of horror. The literary techniques that he uses are very typical to those of most short stories written in Victorian times. Personally, I think that these techniques, such as the mystery of the unknown, are a great deal scarier and build up a much better sense of tension than present day horror stories. Modern horror films and books mainly use gore, wounds and blood to create the element of disgust that generates the most profit. However, I think that Jacobs cleverly uses subtle details and suggestion in ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ to develop a sense of terror throughout the story, and this is what creates a classic horror story that really plays with the reader’s mind.

Relationships Between Parents and Children

For Law and Order I have finally reached old age and have seen others go before me. But, are these my golden years, my retirement years? No! I have paid my dues, but do I have peace and quiet that goes with old age? Not at all! I asked for help with my grandson before he was 16 years old. He needed counseling then and he still needs counseling. I visited the school psychologist here in Lindenhurst. Her answer to me was: †It's your fault, he should have his own room, to think, to be alone if he wants. ‘ My grandson took a baseball bat to my living room furniture and broke many good pieces. Every wall in this three-room room apartment has holes, either big holes or holes from Chinese stars. I went to Family Court in Hauppauge for help. †Your honor, I just want two or three months. I can't deal with cancer and this child, too. † He told me it was my problem. †Your honor, this child needs counseling. † My problem again. His law guardian at this time informed my grandson that he had all the rights. He didn't have to go to school, work or have counseling. He didn't have to do anything he didn't want to do because he would be taken care of until 21 years old. It was my duty to supply food, clothing, shelter, pay medical bills. No control, but I must pay. I went to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for a complete hysterectomy. When I came home I was alone. I had no one to help me and I was weak. My grandson put another big hole in the wall. I called head of probation for help. He told me to leave my apartment. Here I was holding my abdomen, in a bathrobe and cold winter outside. Where was I to go? This is my apartment. I pay all the bills. He told me to leave the apartment to my grandson and when my grandson could not pay the rent, the landlord would put him out. I asked, †What about all my possessions that I worked for all my life? † He told me, †Leave! † It is almost two years later and I still hurt in my abdomen from when I screamed that day at my grandson for putting that big hole in the wall. I have called the police at least four times. It is all a big joke. More teeth have to be put into the laws concerning these children. From that patronizing school psychologist, to the indifferent judge trying to save the state money, to the misogynist head of probation, to the police who keep throwing the ball around and not writing the truth on their report to the Police Department. All are getting good salaries but not really doing the job well that they are getting paid to do. My daughter died, my husband died and I, the old woman, compelled by law to take care of this child, now still a child in an 18-year-old man's body weighing 250 pounds. The law has to change from 16 to 18 years old. Children should not be given authority to do as they please in the parent's home. Law and order is missing because no one cares This article shows how the relationship between children and parents can turn out due to differences or not giving the freedom to children. He was an expert on the French Navy and a devotee of mechanics and engineering, although this may be overemphasized by historians. Louis had studied English history and politics and was determined to learn from accounts of Charles I, the English king who was beheaded by his parliament. Louis restored the position of the French parlements (provincial courts) which Louis XV had tried to reduce. Louis XVI did so because he believed it was what the people wanted, and partly because the pro-parlementary faction in his government worked hard to convince him it was his idea. This earned him public popularity but obstructed royal power. Some historians deem this restoration as one factor that helped lead to the French Revolution. Weak Ruling From the Start Louis was unable to unite his court. Indeed, Louis’ aversion to ceremony and to maintaining a dialogue with nobles he disliked meant that court took on a lesser role and many nobles ceased to attend. In this way, Louis undermined his own position among the aristocracy. He turned his natural reserve and tendency to be silent into an act of state, simply refusing to reply to people with whom he disagreed. Louis saw himself as a reforming monarch but took little lead. He allowed the attempted reforms of Turgot at the start and promoted the outsider Jacques Necker to be finance minister, but he consistently failed to either take a strong role in government or to appoint someone like a prime minister to take one. The result was a regime riven by factions and lacking a clear direction. War and Calonne Louis approved support of the American revolutionaries against Britain in the American Revolutionary War. He was eager to weaken Britain, Frances longtime enemy, and to restore French confidence in their military. Louis was determined not to use the war as a way of grabbing new territory for France. However, by refraining this way, France accrued ever greater debts, which dangerously destabilized the country. Louis turned to Charles de Calonne to help reform Frances fiscal system and save France from bankruptcy. The king had to call an Assembly of Notables in order to force through these fiscal measures and other major reforms because the traditional cornerstone of Ancien Regime politics, the relation between the king and the parlement, had collapsed. Open to Reform Louis was prepared to turn France into a constitutional monarchy, and in order to do so, because the Assembly of Notables proved to be unwilling, Louis called an Estates-General. The historian John Hardman has argued that the rejection of Calonne’s reforms, which Louis had given personal backing, led to the kings nervous breakdown, from which he never had time to recover. Hardman argues that the crisis changed the king’s personality, leaving him sentimental, weepy, distant, and depressed. Indeed, Louis had so closely supported Calonne that when the Notables, and seemingly France, rejected the reforms and forced him to dismiss his minister, Louis was damaged both politically and personally. Louis XVI and the Early Revolution The gathering of the Estates-General soon turned revolutionary. At first, there was little desire to abolish the monarchy. Louis might have remained in charge of a newly created constitutional monarchy if he had been able to chart a clear path through the momentous events. But he was not a king with clear, decisive vision. Instead, he was muddled, distant, uncompromising, and his habitual silence left his character and actions open to all interpretations. When his eldest son fell ill and died, Louis divorced himself from what was happening at key moments. Louis was torn this way and that by court factions. He tended to think long about issues. When proposals were finally put forward to the Estates, it had already formed into a National Assembly. Louis initially called the Assembly â€Å"a phase.† Louis then misjudged and disappointed the radicalized Estates, proving inconsistent in his vision, and arguably too late with any response. Attempts at Reform Despite this, Louis was able to publicly accept developments like the Declaration of the Rights of Man and his public support increased when it appeared he would allow himself to be recast in a new role. There is no proof Louis ever intended to overthrow the National Assembly by force of arms—because he was afraid of civil war. He initially refused to flee and gather forces. Louis believed France needed a constitutional monarchy in which he had an equal say in government. He disliked having no say in the creation of legislation and he was only given a suppressive veto that would undermine him every time he used it. Forced Back to Paris As the revolution progressed, Louis remained opposed to many of the changes desired by the deputies, privately believing that the revolution would run its course and the status quo would return. As general frustration with Louis grew, he was forced to move to Paris, where he was effectively imprisoned. The position of the monarchy was further eroded and Louis began to hope for a settlement that would mimic the English system. But he was horrified by the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, which offended his religious beliefs. Flight to Vergennes and Collapse of the Monarchy Louis then made what would prove to be a major mistake: He attempted to flee to safety and gather forces to protect his family. He had no intention, at this moment or ever, of starting a civil war, nor of bringing back the Ancien Regime. He wanted a constitutional monarchy. Leaving in disguise on June 21, 1791, he was caught at Varennes and brought back to Paris. His reputation was damaged. The flight itself did not destroy the monarchy: Sections of the government tried to portray Louis as the victim of kidnapping to protect the future settlement. His flight did, however, polarize people’s views. When fleeing, Louis left behind a declaration. This declaration is often understood as damaging him; in fact, it gave constructive criticism on aspects of the revolutionary government that deputies tried to work into the new constitution before being blocked. Recreating France Louis was now forced to accept a constitution neither he, nor few other people, really believed in. Louis resolved to execute the constitution literally, in order to make other people aware of its need for reform. But others simply saw the need for a republic and the deputies who supported a constitutional monarchy suffered. Louis also used his veto—and in doing so walked into a trap set by deputies who wished to damage the king by making him veto. There were more escape plans, but Louis feared being usurped, either by his brother or a general and refused to take part. In April 1792, the French newly elected Legislative Assembly declared a pre-emptive war against Austria (which was suspected of forming anti-revolutionary alliances with French expatriates). Louis was now seen increasingly by his own public as an enemy. The king grew even more silent and depressed, being forced into more vetoes before the Paris crowd were pushed into triggering the declaration of a French Republic. Louis and his family were arrested and imprisoned. Execution Louis’ safety came further under threat when secret papers were discovered hidden in the Tuileries palace where Louis had been staying. The papers were used by enemies to claim the former king had engaged in counter-revolutionary activity. Louis was put on trial. He had hoped to avoid one, fearing that it would prevent the return of a French monarchy for a long time. He was found guilty—the only, inevitable result—and narrowly condemned to death. He was executed by guillotine on January 21, 1793, but not before ordering his son to pardon those responsible if he had the chance. Legacy Louis XVI is generally portrayed as the fat, slow, silent monarch who oversaw the collapse of absolute monarchy. The reality of his reign is generally lost to public memory, including the fact that he tried to reform France to a degree few would ever have imagined before the Estates-General was called. An argument among historians persists as to what responsibility Louis holds for the events of the revolution, or whether he happened to preside over France at a moment when much greater forces conspired to provoke massive change. Modernization theory, in general, is a theory designed to explain the process of modernization in society. It considers the internal factors of development of any given country, based on the setup that the traditional countries may be involved in the development in the same way as more developed. In a political studies context, modernization theory evaluates how countries come to the democratic type of government if they are educated, urbanized, industrialized, and what is most import ant -wealthy. Professor Lipset, from University of California at Berkeley, states that economic development leads to democracy. He demonstrates the accuracy of the modernization theory through comparing democratic Anglo-Saxon world countries with Latin America and states a high level of education and wealth are sufficient conditions for democracy such as urbanization and industrialization. The different types of project delivery methods are discussed as follows: Design-Bid-Build (DBB) It is the traditional method for delivering a project typically involving three sequential phases. These are the design phase, the bid phase and the build or construction phase. The design phase concerns with the designers service for the project (Lines, Sullivan Smithwick, 2014). A contractor is selected for the bid phase. Finally, the selected contractor builds the project in the construction phase. It most commonly ends up in a fixed price contract (Kerzner, 2013). Construction Management Multi-Prime (CM MP) This method is somewhat similar to that of the design bid build based on the three sequential phases. However, the owner directly contracts with the individual specialty contractors with multi prime (MP) for designated components of the overall work, instead of a single general of prime contractor (Burnham Nagata, 2016). The basic characteristics of this method include a linear design with many contracts involving architect, contractor and subcontractors. Construction Management at Risk (CMR) In this particular method, the three linear design phases are fast tracked with the three prime players or parties such as the owner, designer and CM constructor. The construction manager is contracted depending on qualification, experience, target construction price and fees for management services for managing and constructing a project (Cardenas, 2016). The major advantages in this project delivery method are it can easily retain control of design and allows adequate flexibility to the project price. Design-Build (DB) In this project delivery method, the owner develops a basic conceptual plan and thereby solicits bids from joint ventures of engineer, architects and builders for the project construction and design (Keen et al., 2015). An integrated process overlaps the design and construction phases, where the designer and contractor work together. It is mainly due to the short span of time allocated for completing the project (Construction of Yagan square started in February 2016 and it is set to open in 2017). By adopting the Design Build method, it is possible to integrate the design and construction phases. To be more precise, the integrated process facilitated by this specific project delivery method includes an overlapped design and construction, which is typically fast tracked (Kereri Gad, 2015). Therefore, it is automatically quicker as compared to the other project delivery methods such as multi prime and Design - Bid - Build (DBB). Apart from that, this particular project delivery method involves only the prime players such as the owner and the design - build entity. As a result, it ensures a substantially simple process for delivery of the project (Leach, 2014). Furthermore, it will involve only one contract, which is between the owner and the design builder with a single point of responsibility. In addition to that, in this method, the design builder is responsible for identifying any inconsistency existing between the performance standards and the prescriptive requirements (Lu, 2010). On the other hand, the owner has the sole responsibility for the cost for reconciliation in the inconsistent standards. Application of the Method The Design Build method involves the following steps: Strategic Facility Planning: The owner establishes the project needs, objectives, and technology content and performance criteria. Selection of Design-Builder: Design - builders are selected depending on certain factors such as capacity, reputation, previous owner experience, fees and pricing methods using interview and evaluation processes (Yuan-zhi Bureau, 2014). Conclusion of First Part of Contract: Contract terms and language is typically taken under negotiations for authorizing preliminary design. After that, the design builder joins with the project owner to define the project along with project objectives, requirements, target budget and schedules (Burke, 2013). After that, the design - build Contract Award is followed. Conclusion The paper has thoroughly included a detailed discussion on the Perth City Link Project, the design and construction of Yagan Square. For achieving this purpose, the paper investigated the characteristics and features of Yagan Square including its size and elements. Furthermore, the various project delivery methods have been adequately discussed. After that, the most suitable method to deliver the particular project is selected and the method of application is analyzed. Apart from that, the researcher has also performed a detailed SWOT analysis for the concerned construction management project for Yagan Square. The individual elements and components of Yagan Square will be considered for developing the strategic and tactical planning for the project execution. It requires substantial amount of industrial effort in order to integrate the food market, facilities for public art, hall, childrens playground area, native gardens, digital tower, plaza, mall as well as an integrated community where the people can gather, meet and celebrate together the culture, heritage and environment of Western Australia. It is one of the new projects of Perth City Link and expected to design one of the busiest pedestrian spots in this city that will effectively link the new underground bus station and the train station. Precisely, the contract is valued around $ 65 million. Approximately 25 food and beverage operators will be sought for the plaza and the construction is expected to complete by early 2017.
